International Floorball Federation's World Floorball Championships Are Back With Increased Footprint

Updated: Jul 7, 2022

November 26 marked the return of elite Floorball competition after a two-year hiatus with the onset of the International Floorball Federation’s (IFF) Women’s World Floorball Championships (WFC) in Uppsala, Sweden, taking place between November 27 and December 5, 2021, which will be followed up with the IFF Men’s World Floorball Championships in Helsinki, Finland, to be held from December 3 to December 11, 2021.

Partnering with Protocol Sports in 2019 with a plan to build upon the sustained growth of Floorball with a focus on introducing Floorball to new markets, the World Floorball Championships will have their broadcast debuts on a number of new major markets and renowned platforms such as SVT in Sweden, TV2 in Norway, CBC in Canada, beIN Sports in the USA, TVStart in Russia, Sportdeutschland in Germany, TSport in Thailand, W Sport in Sub-Saharan Africa, and several others.

Typically held bi-annually, 2021 will mark the first instance of the Men’s and Women’s World Floorball Championships contesting in the same year, and presents a unique opportunity to showcase Floorball’s best athletes, arriving from 22 nations, across two weeks of Floorball action.

“Media distribution and ticket sales have been incredibly strong for both upcoming tournaments, and we are incredibly excited for our eager Floorball athletes, who have been incredibly resilient throughout the pandemic, to get back onto the court and represent their nations,” said John Liljelund, Secretary General at the International Floorball Federation. “The arenas will be packed by the thousands and the competition will be fierce. Thanks to Protocol’s efforts, live coverage of the World Floorball Championships will reach new audiences in new markets, including coverage across North America for the first time,” he continued.

Lowell Conn, President of Protocol Sports Marketing remarked, "one of our main goals at Protocol Sports is to accelerate the growth of next-gen sports with worldwide appeal, and to see the types of platforms getting involved with this year's World Floorball Championships is a testament to the unique value proposition of Floorball, a safe, dynamic and fast sport that is easy to learn and has major grassroots potential."
