Liga ACB Selects Protocol Sports Marketing To Market Spanish Basketball To Key International Territories in Asia and Eurasia

Protocol Sports Marketing Ltd. is proud to announce that it has been selected by the Asociación de Clubes de Baloncesto (ACB) to market and distribute the television, digital and streaming rights to Liga ACB, Copa del Rey, Supercup and its associated media properties to select territories in Asia and Eurasia.

Liga ACB – also known as Liga Endesa – is widely considered, alongside the National Basketball Association and the Euro League, to be amongst the top three basketball leagues in the world. Featuring 18 teams, including world class franchises Real Madrid and Barcelona, Liga ACB’s competitive balance benefits from a promotion and relegation system, with the two lowest-placed teams each year being relegated to Spain’s LEB Oro League, and the top teams from LEB Oro promoted each year to Liga ACB.

Protocol Sports will market Liga ACB media assets, including:

  • Up to 68 regular season games;

  • A minimum of 17 and a maximum of 27 Liga Endesa playoff/championship matches;

  • The Copa del Ray tournament featuring 7 games comprising 8 top Liga Endesa teams;

  • The Supercup tournament featuring 3 games comprising 4 top Liga Endesa teams; and

  • A weekly magazine show containing news, profiles and highlights from Liga Endesa games.

In partnering with Protocol Sports to nurture Liga ACB in dark territories, ACB is adding an agency partner that is renowned worldwide for its ability to successfully introduce international broadcasters and steaming platforms to properties for which such buyers have no prior experience. Protocol Sports is widely credited for having successfully collaborated with key Boxing stakeholders to author a worldwide resurgence of professional Boxing, and while continuing its efforts in Boxing, Protocol Sports is also presently applying such core competencies to niche and emerging sports.

“We are very impressed with Protocol Sports Marketing and its legacy of working hard to deliver meaningful prospects for its right holder partners,” says Joan Manuel Carreras, ACB’s Director of International Development. “With Liga ACB at the forefront of basketball’s progression all around the world, we are confident that Protocol Sports can deliver new opportunities for Liga ACB.”

In Liga ACB, Protocol Sports sees an opportunity to partner with a stable international federation with a 50 year track record of delivering a world class, quality product. “Protocol Sports will never relinquish its role to work with fragmented, niche and emerging sports, but this deal offers a wonderful chance to market internationally an historically-significant property such as Liga ACB,” says Protocol Sports CEO J. Gary Gladman. “We are so pleased to have concluded this deal with ACB, and my entire team looks forward to providing significant and long-lasting opportunities for Liga ACB.”
